We begin the workshop at 10.00, so we have to leave early. I almost canceled, my car is in the garage getting a new injector. This repair was unexpected. I’d already informed Renske then have to skip this day.
With this she wasn’t satisfied, so they offered to pick me up and bring me home afterwards. The weather is more than mud, the rain is pouring down from the sky, there is a strong wind blowing and even local thunder! But despite the bad weather, we are right on time. Besides us there are three other students today: Katty van der Elst, Hilde Vlassenbroek and Myriam Weyns.
Since glazing takes time due to the cool down (think glass), we work with glazed ceramic beads and Inge gives us the needed information to practice it ourselves at home. The bead will get a bottom and lid of silver clay and finally will be decorated with overlay paste. Meanwhile we enjoy delicious sandwiches, coffee, tea and cake. We do the final firing at home.
I've chosen a beautiful dark purple glaze and I use for the decoration with overlay, little templates with a Halloween theme: spiders, spider web and the lid becomes a kind of pumpkin with a witch hat. I'm quite happy with it.
We finish on time and Renske and I gratefully take advantage of this. The weather has not improved, rather deteriorated and we still have to go quite a few kilometers. In the evening I fire my bead. The next morning I curiously check out the result: great, what a cute nice small box!
Inge, thanks again for your explanation and helpfulness during the development of this technique and ladies, thanks for the nice day. Dear Renske, thank you especially for your dear faithful friendship. Something I cherish and am very proud of!
