At KreaDoe 2016 in Utrecht they’ve been introduced for the first time with Art Clay Silver.

Gertine van de Mheen from Bunschoten-Spakenburg and Marianne van den Hatert from Veenendaal, two colleagues and friends have therefore become curious about the more extensive possibilities of this metal clay.

So today they’re spending the day in Harderwijk at Studio "Nevada's Dream". Both of them opt for a ring. After discussing the desired designs they start working.

A base ring decorated with leaf structure and veins. This may sound simple and yet the ladies manage to create something very special. At lunchtime, the rings are finished in general. Time for delicious sandwiches and fresh orange juice.

After the break the designs undergo a finishing touch.
They are ready to fire and turn clay into silver.
Half an hour later, two beautiful white silver rings lie on the table. Finishing nevertheless still includes a number of actions.
Think of brushing, sanding, polishing and cleaning. Hard work is rewarded, dazzling rings, true showpieces on their fingers.

Dear Gertine and Nan, thanks for your great and cozy dedication. I really enjoyed.
We will see each other again in 2017!

New Mokume-Gane from Rosan

In 2013 I met Rosan van den Berg - Gierman for the first time. She is a very creative person and provides a variety of workshops, including silver clay.

Rosan always prepares well and she only works with materials and products she knows and with which she can guarantee the best results. In the field of metal clay for that she followed a comprehensive course at Studio "Nevada's Dream" in Harderwijk.

Now, she’s again visiting our studio and today she completes her two-day course New Mokume-Gane. Using Art Clay Silver and At Clay Copper she designs some beautiful jewelry with a "marbling" effect. And yet, look at the finish, entirely hand-polished, great!
Dear Rosan, you’ve worked extremely well! And again, it was cozy as usual. Let's keep in touch, you're always welcome!

Ladies from “De Brink”

It is 10:30 and for the 4th time this year, I drive to Nijkerk and step inside "De Brink". Already 2 times before in 2016 I gave a workshop Art Clay Silver, namely in February and March 2016.

As usual, the Open Day of the creativity center was held on the last Saturday in August and I was present as well.

For today a workshop is scheduled and there are five participating ladies. At 12.00 we start, three fresh faces and two old acquaintances. For the 4th year in a row those two ladies subscribe and they both make beautiful jewelry.

Picture
The organization of "De Brink" has asked me to deliver a new set-up for this season. I selected beads of silver clay.
Fine silver beads forming a festive bracelet with colored glass beads.

However, at the start it seems I’ve to adapt some planned details. Some women still prefer a ring, pendant or earrings. And of course, this is possible.

At 17.00 we finish and the ladies are going home with fine jewelry. Thanks to the lively and enthusiastic input of the quintet, I say goodbye and see you next season!

New Mokume-Gane and So

Margit Borst-Topper from “Zilver en Zo” in Dieverbrug has promised herself to be allowed to participate at least one training each year.

We still have a large part of the festive month of December ahead of us and already in 2016 shows her to have been a good year.

Reason why she exactly 3 months ago from 3 to 5 September participated in the Art Clay Silver Quilling training and now from 3 to 5 December she’s present for the New Mokume-Gane training.

With both techniques, she has affinity.
The delicate Quilling with Art Clay Silver Paper Type has already delivered her beautiful designs.
Getting started now with a more robust technique.
Using robust in the sense of a proper amount of metal clay to finally get the perfect blend.
This will create 6 beautiful designs.
The leftovers turn out well for several additional jewelry.
Think of earrings, pendants or rings.

Passionately, she works out all assignments. And with a minimal use of silver and copper clay, well done! Margit is a dedicated colleague and between the activities she allows herself no real breaks. Therefore the lunch time sometimes shifts to a later time than originally planned.

Picture
The final day is used for finishing the jewelry.
Everything is well formed and remained properly during firing.

Before she starts finishing, we first experiment some with glass.
Between various pieces we put some shapes of gold leaf and fired polished Art Clay Silver Paper Type.
And these glascabochons became pretty fun, just look!
The New Mokume-Gane pieces are beautiful, you can be justifiably proud Margit!
Quite contrarian - as you say – instead earrings, you've now a beautiful pendant and a ring with the Cross Pattern (Jyumonji) technique.

Dear Margit, thanks for your warm and motivated input.
I respect how you contribute Metal Clay.
We'll keep in touch. In advance a Merry Christmas and a magnificent 2017!
