Silver Clay and Alpaca

Just before the closing of the year 2014, I have an appointment with Shirley Wouters of "Aware Jewels" and Renske Dussel of "Renske-Art" to visit the new studio of Edith van Leeuwen in Hillegom. There she runs her business under the name "ArtiChic".

This day Renske is prevented, so I decide to pick up Shirley at her house and drive together to Edith. On this route we pass the greenhouses of John Warmerdam. Besides succulent plants, he also sells seashells for a very reasonable price. That deserves a shopping moment, which means that we arrive fashionably late (as Shirley calls it) at Edith, who has already coffee and tea.

We enjoy luxury chocolate bonbons, chocolate truffles and a delicious lunch. Everything is available in plenty and even the entertainment is taken care of. For this, Edith gratefully uses her sweet animals, the dogs, the cat and the adorable alpacas. So nice to see how curious they follow everything from the garden. They stand in front of the facade of the studio space and remain aware of everything.

Dear Edith, thanks for your hospitality. You have a beautiful, inviting studio. In the new year we  again plan a date and hope Renske won’t be missed. Up to 2015 with the wish for a beautiful, loving, happy, creative and successful year for everyone!

Another Supplement Porcelain

Recently I said goodbye to my good colleague, instructor and teacher Inge Verbruggen from Temse - Belgium. She spent two days in Harderwijk. Inge is certified for various Art Clay Silver Supplement Courses. The certificate porcelain is a missing link in this series and will be completed today.

She has
developed the required 3 pieces of jewelry - 2 pendants and 1 ring - at her own design, taking into account the different techniques. A good result, I might say.

Dear Inge, thanks for the nice days, the full evening conversations and your fantastic effort. Next time at your studio in Temse?

The Magic of the Night of Silver

Today Renske and I visited the seventh edition of the Night of Silver in Schoonhoven. Silver, flames, moonlight and Schoonhoven are the four key words for the Night of Silver. During this evening, over 30 gold and silversmiths open their doors to interested public and make it possible to visit some of the many studios, galleries or workshops Schoonhoven is rich in.

This year The Night of Silver  is characterized by the chain of office. Not only because the chains of office of the five Communes of the Krimpenerwaard by the merging of these Communes fell into disuse, but also because the chain of office of Schoonhoven was made exactly 100 years ago made.

As of 18:00 pm we were welcomed in the main reception area in the former Turf basement of City Hall with a nice cup of coffee or tea. The choice to use a city guide to accompany us on our route along all the participants, all the while telling about the rich history of the Silvertown, we have rejected. Thinking back to our visit to Prague, I dare to trust my private guide, let Renske determine the route and we walk around on your own. Each open studio is represented by a cozy burning fire basket.

On the way home we drive along Herens & Herens. Always nice to close such a successful evening in a "candy store". Renske thanks for the invitation, it was great!

Art Clay Silver, Teeth and Steel

"Impressions" - Frank Hupse
"Natural Leaf Replica" - Frank Hupse
"Filigree" - Frank Hupse

"Capturing Nature" - Frank Hupse
Last Sunday and Monday Frank Hupse followed the training up to Art Clay Silver Instructor and joined our European network of Metal Clay colleagues with a more than adequate evaluation. After his passionate enthusiasm during a workshop, I didn’t expect anything else. His partner Jessica Krul herein is partly responsible, she supports him in every way and saw first the possibilities of silver clay. She couldn’t separate from the "virus" and coaxed Frank to Studio "Nevada's Dream", where he also became infected.

Again I was able to enjoy the presence of a driven and passionate artist. And what an inspiration this man has. Well prepared, Frank worked out 6 pretty quirky designs, enclosed pictures show his level. For example, he used the cutting edge of a horse tooth on top of the pearl ring. The square pendant has the structure of the corridors of the parasitic wasp, detected in any tree.

Frank, thank you for the confidence your commitment and positive energy. I am convinced that you end up going through a Level 2, Higher and possibly even the New Mokume-Gane. But first you participate in the Art Clay Silver Accessories Contest in Japan. You succeed definitely to work out your idea and to establish a brilliant submission. I hereby wish you all success!
