Art Clay Silver New Mokume-Gane Course - EU

12/13/2013

From Friday, December 13 until December 16, 2013 I was allowed to enjoy the inspiring presence of my dear fellow instructor Susan Diana Wilson. Born in Chicago and quite a few years living in the most northern part of Germany, the town Ellerbek.

Susan comes to the Netherlands for the certification of the New Mokume-Gane technique. For this, she opted for "Nevada's Dream" and of course I feel very honored.

To save her the cost of accommodation and breakfast/dinner we gladly invite her to stay in our home in Harderwijk. There Susan has access to the entire 2nd floor. The food is provided by my always thoughtful husband Michael. An additional advantage is that our children can practice their English language properly.

And what an affectionate and enthusiastic colleagues she appears to be. During the scheduled course days she passes effortlessly all the technical aspects of this training. Susan works controlled, neat and seriously, even the infamous feather technique succeeds at once!

The evenings we fill with conversations, exchanging techniques and tips, visit the city center of Harderwijk and a dinner at the tapas / tepanyaki restaurant.

Monday, at the end of the afternoon, Susan is leaving, heading back to Ellerbek. There she gets started with her exam piece and the required test strips. I am convinced that this will work!

Susan, thanks again for your tireless efforts, our technical, but also in-depth conversations and your wonderful sweet presence!

Metalclay at Dani's ABC

First day of the last month in 2013, and finally we succeeded! We have put the agendas next to each other and were able to choose a date on which all three of us have the opportunity to come together. We have a date in Nieuwegein, at Dani's ABC's the studio of Dani Bus.

How proud can you be, when you enter a cozy and inviting studio at 10.00 AM, with the knowledge that the owner has gained her skills in the field of silverclay at your studio. Say, this lady has grown, totally fun!

I am driving with Renske to Nieuwegein. We are going for a day of metal clays. We use the clays of Hadar Jacobson. Hadar's Clay is metal in powder form which you can form into clay with deionized water. So you make exactly what you need and you can store the remaining for a long time. This clay is long processable and remains somewhat flexible after drying, thus less vulnerable. Practically all metals of Hadar's Clay can be combined together for beautiful unique results! And today Renske, Dani, and I became acquainted extensive with those metalclays. Copper, Bronze, Rose Bronze, White Bronze, Pearl Grey Steel to Steel, everything has been tried out.

Throughout the day there is coffee, tea or soft drinks. Of course, today a “small pie from The Hague”  wasn’t lacking. Given the festive month, the choice fell on a speculaas version. For Dani, we have one more Amaretto flavored, this she can enjoy herself after our departure. Hé Dani, do share it with Richard and the kids ;-)

We don’t have time to fire the pieces, which requires a very precise firing schedule, so we decide to continue that process at home. We will keep each other informed of the outcome and
results.

Dani and Renske, thank you both for the great day, we should do this more often!
