Masterclass Hinged Silver Cuff

Another masterclass and so again a trip to Temse.
It is by now common. Inge often hosts European metal clay colleagues, Shirley usually arranges the Japanese division. This time Tracey Spurgin is coming from the UK to Belgium. I’ve already taken a number of master lasses from her, including the Filigree Orb and Freya's Tear Vessel.
This weekend we make the Hinged Silver Cuff, a beautiful hinged decoration for the wrist.
I am looking forward to it and travel with Renske to Temse on Saturday morning. She is already at my house at 6.30 am, which means that she must have left the high north at 5.30 am. There is no crowds on the way, no traffic jams and we arrive at the workshoproom of “Joc. The Nartist ”inside. Shirley is already there, she spent the night in B&B “De Brug”. That saved her an extra few hours of sleep, because she didn't have to get up early for the ride. Arnolda is also there, nice. In a short time colleagues trickle within.  Once everyone has settled in, Tracey will start with a welcome and explanation of the masterclass for the next 2 days. If we work reasonably well and have enough clay with us, we can even make 2 bracelets?! Hahaha, have I ever had one design ready during a masterclass? Not me! Okay, then get started in good spirits.
We are no less than 16 people:
  • Arnolda de Nooij
  • Shirley de Jong
  • Edith van Leeuwen
  • Margit Borst
  • Judy Kars
  • Katty van der Elst
  • Hennie Broers
  • Thea Tuinstra
  • Marietje Mulder
  • Ann van der Velde
  • Anneke de Hoop
  • Hazel Daniells
  • our hostess Inge Verbruggen
  • and of course Renske Dussel en myself

Inge has arranged tasty sandwiches for lunch.
I don't really give myself much time to eat.
The work pace is just normal and yet I am already behind.
I’ve some problems with the curves with which the bracelet will be decorated.
These must be rolled out firmly in the clay using a template.
And firm is difficult for me to estimate. I’ve quite a lot of strength in my hands, which means that what is firm to me, for someone else it means super firm, ending with the result: too thin!
At the end of the day I let it go, tomorrow I will fix it further.
Renske, Shirley, Katty and Els are doing well, their bracelets already look beautiful.
I think those of the other ladies too, I will look at them tomorrow.
I’ve a direct view of the work of my nearest neighbors, for a look at the other ladies I have to get up: no time, no sense 😉
For dinner, Inge has made reservations at “Eatalia”. I decide to give the ladies the first round of booze, to celebrate that I’ve become a grandmother again. Our beautiful granddaughter is called Livvy, sister of our first and therefore oldest grandchild Hailey. The food is good, I enjoy a delicious risotto with chicken and dare to have a nice chocolate mousse for dessert. Afterwards and on the way to our hotel, I only notice that I’ve stuffed myself too much. This time Renske and I spend the night in hotel “Serwir” in Sint Niklaas. We're both pretty tired and sleep soon.

The next morning, after a delicious breakfast, we leave for the workshoproom. Immediately get started and try to get the bracelet so that it can at least be fired. That works and I even get a 2nd bracelet for the most part in greenware. I eat the sandwich for lunch in between activities. If we can leave on time, we won't be home too late tonight. Renske has to go back to the US of A for work tomorrow morning and still has to pack her bags.

We say goodbye and drive home. Cozy chatting we suddenly find ourselves on a 80 km road? How??!!! We are both not aware of having missed a turn. We decide not to think too much about it and follow the navigation towards Harderwijk. Once there Renske grants no time for a quick cup of coffee, she still has a lot to arrange for her flight. I understand, say goodbye and wish her a safe trip.
It's over again, a super fun weekend in which I learned a lot again.
The upcoming period I will finish both bracelets, I may even make the actual (first) bracelet from scratch. Thanks to everyone for the fun days.
Inge it was again top and hospitable.
Tracey, your masterclasses will always be educational, thanks for sharing these techniques.
Renske, thanks for the lift and sharing the hotel room. Have a safe flight and see you soon!
